Eavesdropper!

There are some elements of science fiction in Priscilla Audette's cautionary tale Eavesdropper! Because of that, readers must be willing to suspend their disbelief as they read. That being said, most of what you read in this book is verifiable; it is the truth. It is what is happening now, and you need to be afraid--very afraid.

This is a book that examines the dangers of unchecked ambition, questions the ethical responsibility of creators, and considers moral ambiguities. The underlying theme of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein is that scientific advancement without ethical consideration can lead to tragedy. The lesson of that landmark novel is that what you have created may come to hate you and want to destroy you. Scientists and those in the tech industry who do not consider the consequences of groundbreaking achievements before moving ahead doom humankind to a miserable destiny. Eavesdropper! asks you to consider the consequences of entities driven to do monstrous things in the name of ethical considerations. Should monstrous behaviors be overlooked because the goal is altruistic?

Early in the novel, the reader discovers that the protagonist, Stanley, is the eavesdropper mentioned in the title, but he is not the only eavesdropper. An entity that is not human, that is insidious, and that cannot be defeated in its goal is attempting to take over and even destroy the human race.
