This is not a book against anything. The aim is never to encourage the reader to abandon one ideology in favor of another. Rather, the intent is always an invitation-addressed to those who subscribe to one or more ideologies-to stop being mere followers and become builders: to acknowledge their ideologies' weak points and strive to improve them, making them more humanistic. And, even more importantly, not to narrow the scope of choice but to broaden it-to make it more inclusive by recognizing quality wherever it may be found. However, anyone who is consciously anti-humanist will find nothing of value in this work.
Any attempt at ideological unification-forcing a single way of thinking, regardless of its stripe or nature-would be extremely detrimental to humanity at this stage of its development. Ideologies are engines of progress; there is no sense in suppressing them or trying to make them all alike.
The author is a software engineer and entrepreneur who is philosophically non-Aristotelian-or perhaps it would be better to say post-Aristotelian-and strongly influenced by Robert Pirsig's critical stance toward Aristotle. A black-and-white perception of reality is, if not the direct offspring of Aristotle, at least his grandchild, and it is something that must be transcended.
In this book, you will not find a single word in favor of fundamentalism. Fundamentalism breeds people who are divided and morally insecure. It also fosters absurd and highly dangerous superiority complexes that often erupt into aggression. I look around with confidence, trusting in the existence of many true humanists and in the awareness-on the part of each of them, through their own cognitive tools and principles-that my goals and theirs are compatible and, in some cases, perhaps even identical. This book was published in Italian in 2008. Some parts are now outdated: in 2008, the new space revolution was just beginning, and reusable rockets were still merely the plans of visionary entrepreneurs-to cite just one key theme. However, I decided not to revise the text; it remains exactly as it was written nearly twenty years ago. By reading it, anyone can assess whether the key concepts remain valid and relevant today and whether the predictions proved accurate.
The aim of this book is to communicate our highest evolutionary destiny: civilization expansion beyond Earth, helping Mother Earth give birth to a Solar Civilization, while looking around with confidence and making my own goodwill a little more visible.
