Widowed and restless, Dr. Jill Anders shelves her grief and joins an advocacy group, believing that doctors must protect their practices and preserve the doctor-patient relationship. A good idea, right? Instead, her actions incite a sharp reaction and slap a target on her back.

Then, out of nowhere comes lawyer Brad Smart, posing as a new patient. He creates doubt, warns Jill that few in her inner circle can be trusted, and causes a rift in her fragile relationship with surgeon Kurt Mitchell. Wary, Jill refuses to believe that federal agencies would seek to silence doctors and that among her close colleagues lies a foe. She can't help but question Brad's evidence and suspect his motives. But as coincidences collide and a web of deceit ensnares her, Jill must decide whether to trust him and cooperate with his plan, or escape and abandon her purpose. If she forges ahead with Brad, can they dismantle a high-level scheme before it's too late? Or will they become the next victims of desperate conspirators?
