Es war die wohl umfangreichste Schenkung im Osten Deutschlands. Der 150. Geburtstag des Mediziners, Sammlers und Mäzens ist Anlass, die einzige noch nahezu vollständig bestehende der großen und kleineren Dresdner Privatsammlungen aus der ersten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts vorzustellen und deren bildungsbürgerlichen Hintergrund zu erhellen.
