In der Meniskuschirurgie ergeben rezesierende Operationstechniken häufig schlechte Spätergebnisse. Zwangsläufig muß daher der Meniskuserhalt das ideale Behandlungsverfahren sein. In diesem Band werden nach einleitender Pathologie der gegenwärtige Stand der Meniskusdiagnostik und -therapie dargestellt. Dabei wurde tierexperimentell und klinisch nachgewiesen, daß ein Meniskus auch in seiner gefäßlosen Faserknorpelzone heilen kann, wenn die Voraussetzungen zur Vaskularisierung dieses Gebietes geschaffen werden und eine tragfähige, funktionell beanspruchbare Meniskusnarbe erzielt werden kann. Auf die einzelnen Operationstechniken wird ausführlich eingegangen.
