Werner Brüggemann würdigt in der vorliegenden Arbeit erstmals die Bedeutung des Orientteppichs anhand geschichtlicher und ästhetischer Aspekte. Fünf Abhandlungen führen in bislang unbekannte Themen ein und eröffnen neue Einblicke in die Bild -Welt der Orientteppiche. Neben einer Geschichtsbetrachtung untersucht der Autor verschiedene Teppichmuster und verfolgt deren Ursprünge. Im letzten Teil widmet er sich der Rezeption des Orientteppichs im 20. Jahrhundert. Ziel des Bandes ist ein vertieftes Verständnis für diesen bedeutenden Gegenstand orientalischer Kultur.§
