Mechanismen der bakteriellen Zellteilung und Chromosomensegregation sind im Wesentlichen in den stäbchenförmigen Modellorganismen Escherichia coli und Bacillus subtilis untersucht worden. In beiden Organismen ist insbesondere das Min System durch Ausbildung eines Konzentrationsgradienten innerhalb der Zelle an der korrekten Lokalisation der Zellteilungsebene beteiligt. Zusätzlich schützen Proteine des Nucleoid Occlusion Systems das Chromosom direkt gegen eine Septumbildung. Interessanterweise besitzt C. glutamicum, ein naher Verwandter der humanpathogenen Organismen C. diphtheriae und Mycobacterium tuberculosis, weder ein Min System noch Proteine des Nucleoid Occlusion. Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit konnte nun gezeigt werden, inwiefern C. glutamicum eine korrekte Zellteilung ohne diese Systeme gewährleistet. So ist das chromosomale ParAB System in C. glutamicum unter anderem für die Lokalisation der Zellteilungsebene verantwortlich, indem es als negativer Regulator der FtsZ Polymerisation agiert. Weiterhin konnten Hinweise erbracht werden, dass dieses System an der polaren Verankerung der Chromosome beteiligt sein könnte.
