Preceding her dreaded vocation, Liberty finds fulfillment caring for seniors in the retirement facility and has grown attached to several of them, especially Abby. As vocation day draws near, Liberty longs for freedom, but the high boundary fences and ID implants crush any thought of escape. When she is attacked by a man who obsesses over her then saved by a kind stranger, she discovers a secret, underground group that watches and rescues people who are unsatisfied with the government's ways. They've been watching her. She is a candidate for rescue.
