O envelhecimento da populaçăo é uma realidade mundial. Sobretudo os idosos estăo envelhecendo e criando um novo grupo, os "idosos mais velhos", os centenários. Com eles aumentam as demandas sociais de saúde e de infra estrutura para comportar e assegurar a qualidade de vida ao idoso. Os mais velhos fazem parte de uma populaçăo muito mais fragilizada que necessita de maior aporte de investimentos em cuidado. O objetivo motivacional desde estudo foi conhecer o significado da velhice e a auto percepçăo de saúde na perspectiva de um grupo de centenários, além de investigar as condiçőes de funcionalidade e cogniçăo. Residentes no município de Passo Fundo- RS, nove idosos centenários participaram desta pesquisa com idades entre 100 e 104 anos. Este livro traz informaçőes contundentes sobre a perspectiva da vida centenária por intermédio da voz de quem alcançou os cem anos de vida. Contribui também para os interessados no estudo sobre os idosos mais velhos, os centenários.
