Zum einen bedeutete ihr Eintritt in die literarische Öffentlichkeit eine Grenzüberschreitung. Zum anderen beschrieben die neuen Modelle literarischer Kreativität das Genie als männlich. Frauen, so glaubten viele, seien zu genialischem Schaffen weniger oder gar nicht fähig. So wurde weibliche Autorschaft zum Paradoxon definiert. Dennoch drängten immer mehr Autorinnen auf den literarischen Markt. Für sie wurde die Begründung ihrer Autorschaft zum vordringlichen Problem. Wie sie dieses Problem lösten und wie sie den Vorstellungen vom Autor als Genie Konstruktionen weiblicher Autorschaft und des 'weiblichen Genies' entgegensetzten, zeigt Corinna Heipcke in ihrer Untersuchung.
