Wellenfeldsynthese ist eine Methode zur Erzeugung virtueller Klangräume. Mit einer hohen Anzahl von Lautsprechern und bestimmten Algorithmen kann das Wellenfeld einer imaginären Schallquelle generiert werden. Klänge erhalten so einen Ort im Raum, der virtuelle Raum selbst eine Akustik, die die Ausbreitung des Schalls beeinflusst. Restriktionen wie die Fixation des Zuhörers auf einen Sweet Spot werden bei Wellenfeldsynthese überwunden. Virtuelle Schallquellen können frei durch den Raum bewegt und auch in der Tiefe des Raums platziert werden.
