Adorno die Erfahrung des Schönen, das Verhältnis von Kunst und Natur, den Rätselcharakter der Kunstwerke und die Spannung zwischen den Forderungen des "Ausdrucks" und der Konstruktion im Kunstwerk. Dabei setzt er sich mit Platon und Aristoteles, Kant und Hegel, Schopenhauer und Kierkegaard, Lukács und Benjamin auseinander und entfaltet sukzessive einen Begriff der ästhetischen Erfahrung, der auch nach 50 Jahren und trotz grundlegend veränderter Diskussionslage in der philosophischen Ästhetik nichts von seiner Aktualität eingebüßt hat.
