Die Übersetzung und der Kommentar zu der anonymen Schrift "An Diognet" bietet auf 400 Seiten in der Tradition des wissenschaftlichen Kommentars biblischer Provenienz zunächst eine ausführliche Diskussion wichtiger einleitungswissenschaftlicher Fragen (insbesondere zur Textüberlieferung, zur Gattung, zur Rhetorik und Situation) sowie philologischer Fragen. Daran schließen sich Übersetzungen der einzelnen Textabschnitte an, worauf deren detaillierte Exegese folgt; Exkurse greifen zentrale Themen auf und zeigen die theologie- und dogmengeschichtliche Bedeutung des Werks an. - In protreptischer Absicht werden in dieser am Ende des 2. Jahrhunderts fiktiv für einen gebildeten und am Christentum interessierten Heiden namens Diognet verfassten Schrift Judentum wie Heidentum widerlegt und daraufhin Lehre und Leben der Christen in Grundzügen dargestellt.
