Abyssinia and Its Apostle

"Abyssinia and Its Apostle" recounts the life and work of Saint Giustino De Jacobis, an Italian Vincentian missionary who dedicated much of his life to evangelizing in Abyssinia (modern-day Ethiopia) during the 19th century. The book, compiled by A. Devin and Mary Elizabeth Herbert, Baroness Herbert, offers a detailed account of De Jacobis's missionary journeys, his interactions with the local population, and his efforts to establish and support the Catholic Church in the region.

The narrative explores the challenges and triumphs of spreading Christianity in a land with its own established religious traditions, providing insights into the cultural and religious landscape of Abyssinia during this period. Through letters, anecdotes, and historical context, the book paints a portrait of a dedicated and influential figure who left a lasting impact on the religious history of Ethiopia. This volume offers valuable historical perspectives on missionary work and inter-religious relations in 19th-century Africa.
