Despite my self-knowledge of an overtaxed imagination and a weakening grip on reality resulting from a lack of quality sleep, I was still confident in the strength of my mind and spirit. I still trusted my instinct and my logic-based conclusions. 

Is there a better way to cope with a worldwide pandemic than traveling toward the location of its origin? Probably. But this was Mark E. Thumann's choice when, while recovering from a work injury, he decided a beach in Thailand would be the best place to convalesce. Little did he know he would be trapped in a COVID-19 lockdown for an indefinite period of time. He was also blissfully ignorant of another consequence of his decision: the most enigmatic, terrifying, and potentially life-altering adventure that lay in wait on the superficially idyllic island of Phuket.
