Die Vision und das Engagement dieses Mannes sind so stark, dass schon nach fünfjähriger Solokarriere die ganze Welt an diesem Erlebnis teilhaben möchte. Ohne jeden Zweifel ist Pohjonen ein Vorbote der Musik des 22. Jahrhunderts. Über die zwei Jahrzehnte, in denen Kimmo nun in Bands aus den Bereichen Rock, Folk, Theater, Tanz, Klassik, Improvisation und Avantgarde spielt, gelang es ihm, sich als einer von Finnlands aktivsten und wichtigsten Musikern zu etablieren. In seiner langen Karriere wirkte er auf über siebzig Platten mit. Er erhielt in Finnland fünf Jahre lang ein staatliches Künstlerstipendium und wurde mit mehreren Preisen im Jazz- und Folkbereich ausgezeichnet. Die Musik seines Debütalbums "Kielo" wurde für Ballettaufführungen in Holland und Helsinki eingesetzt. Zu seinen aktuellen Projekten, bei denen seine Soloarbeit an erster Stelle steht, zählen "Kalmuk", ein umfangreiches Werk für Symphonieorchester und Schlagzeug, "Manipulator" (mit Buto-Tänzerin/Choreographin Aki Suzuki und der Multimedia-Künstlerin Marita Liulia) sowie ein Improvisationsduo mit dem französischen Schlagzeuger Eric Echampard.
