Four Walls entstand 1942 als Zusammenarbeit von John Cage mit Merce Cunningham und 50 Jahre später, sollte es Alexei Lubimov erstmals spielen und lieben lernen. 2012 schlug der herausragende Tänzer Mikhail Baryshnikov, der Lubimovs Bewunderung für Cage und seine zahlreichen Konzerte mit dessen Musik kannte, vor, Four Walls auf der Bühne seines Baryshnikov Arts Center (New York) mit Tänzern zu spielen. Für Lubimov ist es aber auch eine bühnenunabhängige Musik, die den Stil von Philip Glass, Arvo Pärt und im Allgemeinen die gesamte Bewegung des Minimalismus vorwegnimmt.
