Mit dem Debütalbum seiner High Flying Birds (Platz elf in Deutschland) gelang Noel Gallagher 2011 die Emanzipation von seiner zwei Jahre zuvor aufgelösten Band Oasis. Das selbst produzierte Nachfolgealbum "Chasing Yesterday" lebt trotz des nostalgischen Titels klar im Hier und Jetzt. Es gibt einerseits die typischen Hymnen, aber auch besinnliche Momente. So wie die vorveröffentlichte Single "In The Heat Of The Moment":ein hypnotisches Stück, inspiriert vom Satz eines Astronauten, der meinte, eine Reise ins All fühle sich an, als berühre man das Gesicht Gottes. Daneben hören wir eine Bowie-Hommage ("The Girl With X-Ray Eyes"), Manchester- ("While The Song Remains The Same") und Oasis-Reminiszenzen (u. a. "You Know We Can't Go Back", "The Dying Of The Light"). "Ballad Of The Mighty I", die zweite Singleauskopplung, wird von Johnny Marr um einen Discogitarrensound bereichert.
